IT'S OK... IT'S PERU

We left Lima and are glad to report that we survived the journey.  Saying that, the buses here for long distance, are similar to taking an aeroplane, in flight meal, chairs that recline to 160 degrees and on board films! Who would have thought it... KeKe was well impressed,

It was a shock on the way out of Lima.  We had been in the popular area of the city and were completely cut off from the way real Peruvians live, the photos show what we first saw.  Pretty much make do houses that turn into shanty town areas.

After leaving Lima which is MASSIVE the road to Chimbote, called Pan America was amazing, the way the bus driver drove was no different to any other Peruvian... crazy, and on this road it was a little scary!

We arrived in a town called Chimbote, which is a huge fishing town and it stinks, literally stinks. Happily we are in Nuevo Chimbote.  The missionaries picked us up and took us back to their apartment we were so glad to have witnesses meet us and welcome us into their home and they have been amazing.  So hospitable and understanding even with the language barrier.  On top of the roof we came across the first bit of wildlife, that wasn't a stray dog or flies, yet a delicacy in this country... Cuy/Guinea Pig

On the Saturday we met the congregation.  It has 120 publishers, 5 Elders and nearly 30 pioneers.  They have some part of the territory that they get through every 5 days! We thought 3 months was bad enough.. You may wonder why we were sent here? Just between the 2 missionaries they have 17 bible studies.  Every time they go through the territory there is always someone who wants to listen.  It is really hard to get your head around.  The name Jehovah is on everything, buildings, taxis and water trucks.  The love for God is great and there are so many that need help understanding it properly.

Picture of the territory...

Making a home here has been really quick we have a 2 bed apartment, plenty of room for visitors!

We are the top floor with access to the roof (not safe, no parapet) 2 bedrooms, little sunbathing area, it is better than we thought!

The week has really been made by how everyone has welcomed us, turns out we are the second set of people to come to Nuevo Chimbote (there isn't much to do here).  We have been able to make friends, learn more Spanish and enjoy local food. So far so good, because it's ok, it's Peru.

From top left :-) : Missionary Ismael, Meleni, Rosario, Julia, Missionary Namoi and us.

Ciao for now!
